MEMORIAL STAR:
Neonatal Team

Memorial Star's Neonatal Team specializes in providing comprehensive, intensive and progressive care for the extremely low birth weight babies as well as the critically ill newborns.  This team's focus is the evaluation, stabilization and transport of these special patients.

The NICU team services numerous facilities in Southern Colorado and neighboring states, bringing patients to Memorial Health System's Level III-b Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for 24 by 7 care and consultation by our neonatologists and neonatal nurse practitioners.   

Team configuration is typically a specially trained neonatal RN and RRT, both experts in the care and transport of extremely low birth weight neonates.

ABOUT our Neonatal Nurses:

R.N.'s must have a minimum of three years of experience in a Level III NICU; maintain a current Colorado license, BLS, NRP, PALS, and STABLE certifications.  In addition to these certifications, many of our nurses hold advanced certifications such as RNC-NIC. ABOUT our Specialty Team Respiratory Therapists:

Transport Registered Respiratory Therapists are required to have at least 3 years of critical care experience as well being certified as a neonatal-pediatric specialist. If you would like to meet our respiratory therapists please access our Meet the Specialty Team page.

THE Neonatal Team:

Our team is proficient in (babies 23 weeks gestation and greater):

  • Intubation of Neonates
  • Umbilical Line Placement (arterial & venous)
  • Insertion of Chest Tubes
  • Needle Chest Thoracentesis
  • Intraosseous Access
  • Peripheral Venous Access

They are required to be certified in the following:

  • BLS-Healthcare Provider
  • PALS
  • NRP
  • STABLE
